Breaking The Stigma of Going To Therapy 

We all have the power to obtain healthy relationships, optimal wellness, a strong voice, and the ability to show resilience over trials. My work has solely been to enlighten and enhance those inner abilities. I hold my clients accountable and point out discrepancies that foster unwanted thoughts, emotions, behaviors, or outcomes. I have a direct, solution-focused approach. My first step is building therapeutic rapport with my clients and creating measurable and attainable goals. We will work towards creating your version of happiness and peace. I am committed to providing a non-judgmental space where there is no right or wrong answer. Choosing a therapist can elicit anxiety and feelings of guilt or dread. I completely understand, which is why I am even more inclined to shift that narrative of therapy. No matter if you walk through my door as a couple considering separation, a teenager lost on your path, a college student gripped by the expectations of adulthood, a family coping with internal conflict, or a child that witnessed one of their parents endure violence or trauma, I validate your experiences and humbly take on the task to help you on your journey.

My Story

Shannon Smith, also known as "Shay," is a beacon of inspiration and empowerment in the field of mental health therapy. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health therapist, this New Jersey native and proud HBCU graduate from Morgan State University brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her work. With a BA in Psychology and a Masters in Art in Clinical Mental Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Shay has dedicated herself to helping others navigate their inner worlds and unlock their true potential.
Since relocating to Indiana in 2016, Shay has served as a school, family, and individual therapist for local agencies in NWI, making a profound impact on the lives of those she encounters. Operating her private practice in Crown Point, IN, Shay currently juggles an active caseload of 60 +clients, each one a testament to her commitment to their growth and well-being. Through the lens of Cognitive Behavior Theory, Shay guides her clients towards self-discovery and transformation, holding them accountable and illuminating the discrepancies that hinder their progress.
Shay's approach is direct, solution-focused, and deeply compassionate. She motivates her clients by setting measurable and attainable goals, empowering them to take charge of their mental and emotional well-being. With a focus on trauma, anxiety, life skills, and a myriad of other challenges, Shay's expertise spans a wide range of areas, catering to clients of all ages, from 4 to 60 years old.
Beyond her role as a therapist, Shay is a life coach, mentor, and staunch advocate for mental health awareness in her community. Her dedication to creating a non-judgmental space for healing and growth shines through in all aspects of her work. Shay's unwavering commitment to her clients' journeys towards self-discovery and resilience is a testament to her unwavering spirit and boundless capacity for compassion.

I implement effective Cognitive-behavioral methods to instill self-understanding among clients to empower them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. Since beginning full- time private practice at TCR in 2022, I have provided clients in NWI area a wide range of mental health services. From small scale circumstances to traumatic experiences - my services are personalized to suit everyone’s needs.  We keep it authentic you may cry but trust you'll be surprised when we find a way to laugh through the experience. 

In Family therapy we will Enhance communication skills within the family unit.Foster empathy and understanding among family members.Establish and reinforce healthy boundaries.Clarify and define individual roles within the family system.Develop effective coping strategies for all family members.Address and modify dysfunctional patterns of interaction.Increase individual awareness of the impact of their behaviors on the family dynamic.
